Where The Theatre Played...
During it's run the Floating Theatre played in at least 142 locations in eight states almost entirely in what could be described as the Mid-Atlantic. The James Adams Floating Theatre played as far north as Camden, New Jersey and as far south a Merritt Island, Florida. For most of its history, however, the Theatre played in the small towns of the Chesapeake and in the Albemarle region of North Carolina.
While the theatre played a week at a time at each stop, James Adams usually dropped a town if he experienced two losing nights there in one week. The boat stayed away from larger towns with other forms of entertainment and discriminatory taxes were sometimes imposed due to pressure from cinema owners.
